Definitions

freight transportation status (Information Flow): A time-stamped status of a freight shipment as it passes through the supply chain from manufacturer through arrival at its final destination; including cargo movement logs, routing information, and cargo ID's. This includes cargo status, current operation, information on incidents associated with the cargo, and identification of delays/penalties.

Intermodal Customer System (Source Physical Object): The 'Intermodal Customer System' represents organizations that engage in the shipment of freight, either originator (consigner or shipper) or recipient of the cargo shipment. They enable the movement of goods on routes that require the use of other modes of transportation such as heavy rail, air, sea, etc. The Intermodal Customer System includes those personnel responsible for the movement of freight across international borders.

Fleet and Freight Management Center (Destination Physical Object): The 'Fleet and Freight Management Center' provides the capability for commercial drivers and fleet-freight managers to receive real-time routing information and access databases containing vehicle and/or freight equipment locations as well as carrier, vehicle, freight equipment and driver information. The 'Fleet and Freight Management Center' also provides the capability for fleet managers to monitor the safety and security of their commercial vehicle drivers and fleet.

Solution Description

This solution is used within the U.S.. It combines standards associated with Data for Distribution (TBD) with those for OMG DDS. The Data for Distribution (TBD) standards include a placeholder for upper-layer standards necessary to define the data (elements and structures) necessary to complete a solution for the information flow based on data distribution technologies. The data standard will need to include a specific customization for the desired data distribution technology used (e.g., Kafka, DDS, etc.).. The OMG DDS standards include lower-layer standards that support secure data sharing and command operations between remote devices.
