Monitoring and Evaluation

A systematic planning approach like the Objectives-Driven, Performance-Based approach results in a set of measurable objectives and defined performance measures. The monitoring and evaluation step is the culmination of such a planning approach where performance and more specifically the progress towards the objectives is measured. With its focus on integration and information sharing, the architecture can be used to define the systems and interfaces that will be used to collect and share data to support the performance measurement.

Architecture Use

The regional architecture can help with planning and implementing a performance monitoring system. Just about every regional architecture includes one or more Archived Data Systems that collect and process operational data and make it available to archive users, including planners. In most cases, well connected archives are defined for planning stakeholders in the region - the MPO and/or state DOT. The regional architecture defines a framework that supports data collection from operational traffic, transit, public safety, and traveler information systems.
